Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau Captures Visitors PDF Print E-mail

Each day, almost 250,000 air passengers fly to and from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA), representing 10 percent of all passengers that fly in the U.S. each day.* To capture a larger share of the business and leisure travelers moving through the world’s busiest airport, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) has re-opened its visitors’ center at HJAIA with upgraded technology and a new look.

The new visitors’ center is located in between the North and South Terminals of the baggage claim area. Enhancements include a fresh, new look that reflects the Atlanta brand and six flat screen televisions that will display information about events, welcoming conventions, information on vacation packages such as the Atlanta CityPass and the MVP summer vacation package and promoting Atlanta.net, the city’s official destination Web site.

Of the 38 million visitors that Atlanta hosted in 2006, 78 percent came by car and 17 percent arrived by air travel.** According to Spurgeon Richardson, president and CEO of ACVB, “The increased presence and upgraded technology at the new visitors’ center will help us engage more travelers to explore Atlanta. The busiest airport in the world presents a lot of opportunity to capture potential visitors, all translating in to economic impact for our city.”

ACVB has four visitors’ centers throughout Atlanta, one in HJAIA airport, two inside the Georgia World Congress Center, one inside the Georgia Aquarium and a location at Underground Atlanta. The visitors’ centers are staffed with an ACVB employee to answer questions about the destination and provide brochures and other helpful materials about how to experience the city. The four centers serviced 333,743 January through June of this year, with the visitors’ center at HJAIA handling 17 percent of those inquires.”

Established in 1913, ACVB is a private, nonprofit organization created to favorably impact the Atlanta economy through conventions and tourism. In 2006 Atlanta welcomed more than 38 million visitors, generating $11.4 billion in direct spending and supporting jobs for more than 227,000 metro Atlantans.
