A new study released today by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) revealed that Americans took 41 million fewer airline flights over the past 12 months because of “immense frustration” with the “air travel process,” such as cancellations, delays and inefficient security screening. The study, which TIA characterized as the “first of its kind,” said the data shows evidence of “travelers changing behaviors.” The study was conducted by the respected bipartisan polling firms of Peter D. Hart Research Associates and The Winston Group. “The findings of this study shouldn't lead to the blame game, but should rather serve as a reminder to travelers that they have options other than flying, such as motorcoaches,” said American Bus Association President & CEO Peter J. Pantuso. “For long-distance travel, flying still has obvious advantages. But for shorter trips, particularly those of 200-400 miles, consumers have alternatives to airline travel that are less costly, and which can be time-competitive and comparatively free of many airport headaches.”
