Beyond New Ships in 2008: Cruise Industry Focuses on Elevating the Experience
By Cindy Bertram
Ship innovations marked the cruise industry
in 2007, along with a focus on stronger
branding. A new cruise line, Azamara Cruises,
emerged, and 12 new ships were introduced.
The year also saw an intense demand and
growth in the European market, a new focus on
multi-generational travel occurred, and the
hardware components of ships once again
became a concentration point.
The river cruise segment of the industry
also saw tremendous growth and heightened
interest. Leisure Group Travel spoke with
executives in the cruise industry to get
their input and ideas on where the market is
heading in trends, demands and focus in 2008.

New England Travel Tips: Historic Byways
By Alice Gregory
Robert Frost wrote his famous poem, "The Road
Not Taken," long before group travel made an
impact on the landscape of New England. But
he would have surely smiled whenever a group
goes off the well-traveled, bustling highways
to explore the historic byways, beautiful
routes that highlight the history and culture
of the region.
Traveling State Route 169 in Connecticut,
it is easy to erase the bustling cities and
busy Interstate 95 from your mind. This
historic byway takes you back in time,
winding through historic villages, passing
picture-postcard white churches, their white
spires rising above the tops of ancient maple
trees. Miles and miles of stone walls are a
photogenic reminder of how early settlers
wrestled farmland from this rugged landscape.

Warming Up! (Putting your money where your mouth is.)
By Mike Marchev
In a few short weeks, we will all be
documenting our "wish list" for the New Year
- 2008.
>From business tactics to dietary controls
.... from exercise to house-hold chores,
we will once again focus toward improving our
lot in life in one way or another.
This is as it should be.
But what about "the warm up"?
Perhaps this is why year after year we come
up short. Maybe ... just maybe ... we become
victims of
our own impetuousness.
Let's try something different this year.
Let's warm up while we still have some time
left in 2007.
Athletes do it. So maybe we should give it a
shot.
When our bodies are not use to something
there seems to be a tendency to reject our
efforts.
So let's slowly get use to the change that we
are forecasting in 2008.
I don't care at this point what it is you are
planning to do differently next year,
but whatever it is, I want you to do it for
the next five days. Exercise? Diet? Prospecting?
Whatever you think will make your 2008
Resolutions List, try it this week.
Five days is all I ask. Then go back to your
current routine for the next three weeks.
But when January 1srt comes, you will already
have tried your new behavior.
You have already warmed up a little bit. This
will prevent your "cold-turkey" approach
and who knows, maybe next year just might be
the year for the New You.
What have you got to lose? For the next five
days, pretend you are in motion.
Then, next week, let me know how you feel.
Next year is going to be the best year we
have ever had. Not by accident ... but by
design.
Let's warm up and then, make it happen.
