Historic Hotels Hold Key to Colorado’s Past The National Trust for Historic Preservation has designated nine Colorado sites “Historic Hotels of America.” The hotels feature original Victorian architecture and interior décor against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, making a great tour or stay for any group. The hotels were all built in the late 19th or early 20th centuries and reflect the opulence of that era. The hotels were chosen by the Register based on their historic integrity, architecture and ambience. The youngest inn, the Redstone Inn in Aspen cost $5 million in 1902 and features 35 guestrooms surrounded by 22 acres of national forestland. Denver’s oldest hotel, The Oxford, built in 1891, has been called a “city within a city,” with its own dining rooms, barbershop, library, pharmacy, Western Union office, stables and saloon. Today, it has eighty rooms and offers complimentary Cadillac transport service for guests visiting downtown locations. Contact: 303-689-0704, www.colorado.com. From July 20-22, the Gardens will celebrate Founder’s Day with performers, demonstrations, tours and other special displays. July 22nd will also see the Centennial Salute, this year’s show with the musical favorites of the Gardens’ founder, Pierre S. du Pont. Read More
